Your Thassos excursion will begin at the settlement of Kastro and end at Ypsarion, the island's highest peak at 1,206 meters. Here, you will enjoy 360-degree views of Mount Athos, Kavala, Golden Beach, and maybe even the islands of Lemnos and Samothrace.
Kastro is considered the oldest village on the island. The walls and roofs of the houses are built of stone. It was named after a castle built in 1403, and the ruins of the wall still make a huge impression. In the village there is the church of St. Athanasius, which was built in 1804 in a record time of 40 days after obtaining the relevant permission of the Sultan. Kastro village is rich in history, and you will be sure to enjoy the learning experience and the views from the village itself.
The next stops will be the Monastery Panagouda, where you will be able to visit an old wooden church and drink water from a healing spring, along with the artificial lake and the waterfalls in Maries. The Maries waterfalls, along with the surrounding plane trees, are popular among nature lovers. The crystal clear waters offer a breath-taking view and create an airy atmosphere that is out of this world. You will be able to taste traditional sweets and the famous Thassian pine honey. Whoever wants, can also buy it.
Then we will take the mountain road to the top of Mount Ipsarion. On the way, we will see how nature is changing. From the top, the views are unforgettable and here is also time to take some great photos.
You will also enter the Shelter, a viewpoint that is 910 meters above the sea level. From here you will have amazing views of Golden Beach, while we take a break. We will drink cold, fresh water from a mountain spring with an amazing view that will make the whole experience worth it.
Your beach safari will include a visit to the amazing Giola lagoon. Afterwards, you will take a trip to Paradise beach, and then Marble beach. Giola is a natural pool housed between huge rock formations just a few meters from the sea. It is also referred to as the eye of Zeus owing to its eye-like shape. We will spend around 45 minutes at the lagoon where you are free to take a dip in the water, or take as many pictures as you would like (the place is pretty picturesque, so be sure to carry your camera with you).
Paradise beach will be amazing for nature lovers. The beach is sandy and it is shallow when entering the sea. An ideal place for children and people who cannot swim or are afraid of deep water. You will enjoy the crashing waves from the sea, and the clear waters for about an hour before heading out to Marble Beach.
Marble beach will be your last stop of the day. It will be an off-road trip from Golden beach to the north. You will get to admire nature in its rawest form, and along the way, we will make a few stops so you can take a few photos against some huge white marble rocks for memories’ sake. Once done, we will drop you off at your prefered drop-off point.
The package includes pickups and drop-offs at selected hotels within Thassos Island. Once you have booked and have received an email confirmation, you can confirm whether your hotel is included in the list. If not, just contact us, and we will arrange for transportation for you.
All our excursions abide by the stipulated health and safety measures regarding COVID-19. The Jeep Safari is no exception. From the time the driver shows up at your pickup location to when they drop you off, all measures stipulated by the health ministry will be observed. You are urged to take heed of all such regulations. All the areas that customers touch are frequently cleaned and the number of visitors will be limited to reduce crowds and maintain social distancing.
As a requirement, all customers will be required to bring and wear masks.
You are free to cancel your Jeep Safari excursion up to 48 hours in advance. You will receive a full refund while at it.
Your trip will be limited to 3 participants per car. However, you can expect to be in a convoy of several 4x4s in the course of your trip. A convoy always makes for a fun trip.
The Thassos excursion will start at 09:00 and end around 17:00, plenty of time to see all the landmarks and soak in the beauty of the Island.
You will have a trained guide to accompany you throughout your Thassos excursion. He or she will take you around all the places that you need to see, walk you through the history and story behind certain areas, and answer any questions that you might have.
The 4x4 vehicles are not wheelchair accessible. Child seats available on request. An adult must accompany all children on the trip. Given that we will go off-road, the ride will be bumpy. As such, we do not recommend this for travelers with back problems. We also do not recommend the Jeep Safari for pregnant travelers. However, most travelers can still participate and enjoy a Thassos excursion unlike any other.
In this excursion apart from the guide, a driver is not provided for each jeep therefore the clients that wish to participate should be able to drive. In case of a non-driver please advise us so that we can arrange for you to go in a jeep that already has a driver.
Hotel pickup is only available at specific hotels within the central area of Thassos island. As such, please be sure to make inquiries ahead of time to confirm whether your hotel is included on the list. If they are not, we will walk you through how we can organize for pickup.
